Foiling megayachts....

I know, I'm on a website for windsurfer... But I like also so much sailing...

So, what do you think about that :
It's the winner of the Pininfarina 2006 Design Award and he had a very wet dream ... and we hope it will come true...

That's a nice design Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_10
But I am not convinced by the basic idea, the Hydroptère had so much problems and it was a trimaran which helps a lot for foils. I think the idea may be continued but there is an awfull lot of work...

This is definitly certain, there is a lot of work to do this better...but why not... it's could be a nice idea... I really like this project !

But, if you don't agree with the idea, what do you think about the foil in general?

Ok, l'hydroptere is a big trimaran and the most popular, but there also are some smaller boat, like the " moth international " ! ( great boat ).

In fact, the foil is present on a lot of support, like trimaran, catamaran, skiff ( 18 foot ), kayak, windsurf....

I think that foiling is an enormous subject of discution !!

The debate is opened, delivered your opinion. In French it's well too!

Le sujet de base était en anglais, alors j'ai continuer...
Puis comme ulbac a continué lui aussi et bien voilà... Mais bon soit jaloux de ne pouvoir répondre qu'en french Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_08 Je rigoleeeuuuu

Pour ce qui est de m'entrainer... pour le moment je m'entraine plutot à réapprendre à étudier... crois moi, j'ai quitté les syllabus trop longtemps, maintenant après ces années de perdue, c'est pas facile de s'y remettre... Mais je vais y arriver !

Après ca, j'aurai tout le temps ( mérité en plus ) pour te piquer un peu de matos de planche ou quand j'aurai la tune pour en acheter... et m'entrainerai à l'O2R !

sans avoir l'air de vouloir aborder le sujet de la portance des ailerons , voyez quand même que ce qui fait sortir de l'eau est une aile dans le plan horizontal et n'a rien à voir avec nos ailerons verticaux. cqfd

J'en ai entendu parler de foil à l'eau d'heure l'autre jour, alors je relance le sujet !

Pourquoi ne pas fabriquer un foil nous même pour planche...?

Une courte comparaison entre Bladerider Moth et Formula.

5-7 knots --- The foiler "flys" running rings around the Formula.

7 - 12 knots --- Upwind the foiler has much better VMG , Formula board can't point as high although marginally faster. Formula board is faster downwind but on the lighter end of the wind scale can't sail as low and can fall off the plane.

12-18 knots --- Upwind very even , Formula board faster but lower . VMG very similar. Formula board noticeably faster downwind .

18 knots + --- The formula board starts to edge away now upwind and is considerably faster downwind. .

Conclusion ----- The foiler is amazingly efficient in light to moderate airs and will foil much earlier than a Formula board will plane.
